A story from Finland :

The Fox And The Crayfish

Once upon a time there was a fox. One day the fox was walking by the river. Soon he noticed a crayfish at the bottom of the river and started to laugh. The crayfish heard the fox laughing and asked him what was so funny: “Why are you laughing?” “I am laughing at you!” said the fox. “You look absolutely ridiculous crawling so slowly backwards.”

The crayfish was not happy to hear this. He suggested: “Let’s have a race! I bet I can get to the top of that hill faster than you!” The fox liked the idea because he was sure he would win the race. The crayfish walked behind the fox and added: “I bet I win you even if I let you go first.” The fox was surprised by the self confidence of the crayfish: “Suits me. But you must be out of your mind!”

“Ready, steady, go!”  As the race began, the crayfish grabbed the fox by his tail. The fox did not notice it, he just ran as fast as he could to the top of the hill. A meter of two before he got to the top, the fox turned around to see where the crayfish was. As the fox turned, the crayfish jumped from the fox’s tail to the finish line. The fox wondered where the crayfish was and when he turned back he could not believe his eyes. The crayfish looked pleased, he waved his hand and said: “Oh you finally got to the top, too.”

The fox was confused; he could not figure it out how the crayfish got to the top so fast. The crayfish was happy and he never told the fox how he had won the race. The end.
